Two Announcements about the ISAT Reading Test for Grades 4 - 8  and the ISAT Writing Test for Grade 3

1.   Addition to the ISAT Reading Instructions for Grades 3 - 8

On page 14 of the ISAT Test Administration Manuals, the text states that LEP students may write their answer to the reading and mathematics extended-response questions in English or Spanish. However, the directions for sessions 2 and 3 did not include oral instructions informing LEP students they may write their answers to the extended-response questions in English or Spanish.

For LEP students who are Spanish literate taking either Form LM or the regular-English forms, please read the sentence below as part of the directions for Sessions 2 and 3.  This added oral instruction is to be read immediately after the paragraph that begins,  If you finish all the test questions early, ….   

SAY   You may write your answer either in English or in Spanish.

If using the Spanish-translated directions use the following.

SAY    Puedes escribir tu respuesta en Inglés o Español.

This oral instruction should be included with directions on the following pages:

The Grade 3-5 Test Administration Manual – p. 34, 37, 69, 72, 113, and 116

The Grade 6-8 Test Administration Manual – p. 34, 37, 73, 76, 117, and 120

2.  Misspelled word on Page 2 of the Grade 3 ISAT Writing Folder

In the very first line in the ASSIGNMENT box on page 2 of the Writing Folder the word health is misspelled as heath.  The l  is missing. Please use the instructions that follow to inform students of the misspelling.

On page 60 of the Test Administration Manual  the second paragraph of oral instructions read to students starts, Now break the seal and turn to page 2 of your writing folder…..  Please replace this entire paragraph with the following oral instructions.

SAY     Now break the seal and turn to page 2 of your writing folder where you will find the writing prompt.  In the very first line in the ASSIGNMENT box the word health is misspelled. It is missing the l.  Please write an l between the a and t to make the word HEALTH. 
It should be spelled h-e-a-l-t-h.
[PAUSE.] 

[You  may write the word health on the board to illustrate your instructions.]

SAY     Remember to write your composition inside the boxes on the lined pages.  You may begin.
