PARCC - Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is the new state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. PARCC assesses the New Illinois Learning Standards Incorporating the Common Core and will be administered to students in English Language Arts and mathematics.

PARCC assessments in English Language Arts and mathematics will be administered to all students in grades 3-8, according to their current grade level. At the high school level, students enrolled in English III will be assessed in English Language Arts, students enrolled in Algebra II / Math III will be assessed in mathematics, and students enrolled in both English III and Algebra II / Math III will be assessed in English Language Arts and mathematics, regardless of grade level. On December 1, 2014, ISBE announced an option for grades 9-12 PARCC testing. This announcement is posted online at http://www.isbe.net/assessment/listserv/2014/dec1.htm.

  • Message regarding students who have not previously taken the PSAE

Those students who did not take PSAE prior to this school year and who are eligible to receive a regular high school diploma either immediately or through the end of the 2014-2015 school year AND who are not enrolled in a course teaching the standards of Algebra II, Math III or ELA III prior to their date of graduation, may be considered to receive a regular high school diploma at the discretion of the district.

To assist with making this possible, ISBE has removed the grade 11 programming in SIS to allow students who have not previously taken the PSAE to be eligible as grade 12.  Rulemaking on the diploma requirement and State assessments is forthcoming.
  • PARCC Fall Block Announcement for Credit Recovery Programs

ISBE previously released information regarding Fall Block for PARCC.  Fall/Spring Block must also include students in Credit Recovery type programs in which the student receives full credit for Algebra II, ELA III, or High School Math 3 in either the fall or spring semester.  These students should test during the PARCC window closest to the time when the student has reached 75% and 90% of instruction for the class or classes.

If you question whether or not you have students that should participate in the Fall Block, please contact Daniel Brown, Student Assessment Division Supervisor, immediately at 866-317-6034.  He will help you determine if students should test and help you make arrangements to keep those students on track.  You may also email Mr. Brown at dabrown@isbe.net.

Currently, the majority of Illinois districts only have access to the training side of PearsonAccess Next. On November 25, ISBE will transfer all users in the training site over to the live site. If there are users in the system that a district doesn’t want transferred over, they’ll need to be deactivated by November 24. New users added to the training site will not be automatically transferred to the live site after November 25.
