May 13, 2008ISBE DELL e-Broadcast 2008.120 - Latino Art Beat Art ContestDear Educators Serving ELLs: This message is from the Division of English Language Learners at the Illinois State Board of Education. Latino Art Beat, a Chicago based not-for-profit arts organization that awards scholarships to high school students, is now accepting submissions for its 2008 contest. The general theme for the competition is "What Hispanic Heritage & Culture Means to Me." Students attending Chicago Public Schools 299 in grades 9 – 12 are eligible to participate in the multiple competition categories of drawing, painting, 3-D artwork, computer generated artwork, photograph and film and animation. For students outside of Chicago, only juniors and seniors may participate in the competition categories of drawing, painting, special photography category and/or film and animation. The national competition deadline is Thursday, May 29. However, Illinois high schools (including Chicago) may submit Late Entries until Monday, June 23.
