ISBE DELL e-Broadcast 2012: 220 - SALSA Survey on the Spanish Language Development (SLD) Standards
WIDA is conducting a survey on the academic Spanish Language Development (SLD) standards being developed under the SALSA grant. These standards will be available for students identified as Spanish language learners in grades K-12 and will be available for educators across the United States and Puerto Rico. The general purpose of this survey is to determine if the strands of Model Performance Indicators (MPIs) (Continuos del Desarrollo Lingüístico) contain appropriate representations of the language skills necessary for specific content areas within a specific grade level.
We invite all educators who are familiar with students receiving content instruction in Spanish to participate in an online survey to provide feedback on the drafts of the Spanish Continuos del Desarrollo Lingüístico. These drafts are written in Spanish and survey participants will have the option of selecting the grade levels with which they have experience teaching. Also, they will have the ability to only respond to the content areas they have experience teaching.
We strongly encourage survey participants to review the following brief presentation on the Continuos del Desarrollo Lingüístico prior to beginning the survey. This presentation can be viewed at http://www.wida.us/DownloadDocs/standards/SALSA/player.html.
This voluntary survey is available to all educators in the United States and Puerto Rico that meet the following criteria:
- Are bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Have bilingual certification and/or K-12 teaching experience with Spanish language learners
Based on the survey results, the drafts will be revised as needed prior to their official release.
The survey will be available until May 2, 2012. Any questions can be directed to Lorena Mancilla at firstname.lastname@example.org.
