Illinois General Assembly Legislative Scholarships

Illinois law provides for each member of the General Assembly to annually nominate 2 persons of school age and otherwise eligible, from his district; each shall receive a certificate of scholarship in any State supported university designated by the member. Any member of the General Assembly in making nominations under this Section may designate that his nominee be granted a 4 year scholarship or may instead designate 2 or 4 nominees for that particular scholarship, each to receive a 2 year or a one year scholarship, respectively.

Stipulation

Students applying for the General Assembly Scholarship must be a resident within the legislative district of the awarding legislator.

The Illinois State Board of Education checks student residency through the Illinois State Board of Elections legislative locator directory on its website http://www.elections.il.gov/DistrictLocator/DistrictOfficialSearchByAddress.aspx. The agency will not process any scholarships if the recipients information is in conflict with the Board of Elections site.

Forms must be obtained from the awarding legislator - NO forms are available through the State Board of Education.
  • Application Form
    Available from the awarding legislator only.

  • Nomination Form
    Legislators must complete this form to nominate recipients for a General Assembly Scholarship.

  • Waiver of Confidentiality Form
    Available from the awarding legislator only. General Assembly Scholarship recipients must complete this form and have it notarized. It waives his/her right to confidentiality with regard to the contents of the waiver document.

To determine the name and phone number of your legislators, contact your County Clerk's Election office. The State of Illinois website has a Directory of County Officials, or you can find your County Clerk in your local phone book.
