The National Center for Homeless Education provides information and resources to assist school districts with the implementation of the McKinney-Vento Act. Often, school personnel have questions regarding how to confirm eligibility for homeless education services. This Best Practices in Homeless Education brief, produced in 2007, outlines positive steps to take in order to effectively meet the needs of homeless children and families. - U.S. Department of Education Issues New Guidance on Financial Aid for Unaccompanied Homeless Youth
The U.S. Department of Education’s “Application and Verification Guide” (AVG) provides instructions and guidance to financial aid administrators and counselors who help students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The 2010-2011 edition of the AVG was published on Monday, June 21st. It contains important new information regarding unaccompanied homeless youth. Plan for Homeless Education
This is the plan for the delivery of all grant-funded homeless education services under the Title X, Part C McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act to meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Education for a definitive plan for services to homeless children and youth in Illinois. This toolbox is designed to help school districts implement the McKinney-Vento Act Fully, so they can address the needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness on a daily basis and in times of disaster. The toolbox contains information and practice lessons learned and resources developed during the recovery process following the 2005 Gulf Coast Hurricanes.
