The assessments are coded according to standard and stage. Example: 1A.A is aligned to standard 1A, stage A (first grade). Sample student work, when available, will follow the assessment.

1A.A - Using the Sounds of Words Reading Task
Listen to a rhyming text, change that text by choosing other rhyming words, and read the new version. -
1B.A - Questioning the Reader
Pretend to be a character in a story and respond to interview questions. -
1C.A - Create a Chart
Make a picture chart that compares two reading selections. -
2A.A - Tell the Sequence in an Oral Report
Tell about a favorite story by describing it as real or make believe and by identifying the beginning, middle and end during an oral presentation. -
2B.A - Looking at a Character
After reading a literary work, interpret what one character is like and provide evidence from the text to support those opinions. -
3A.A - Write a Story
Compose two or more simple sentences in response to a picture. -
3B.A - Sequencing a Story with Pictures, Text and Talk
Draw three pictures that illustrate a visit to someone, write text related to the pictures, and tell the story to an audience. -
3C.A - Create a New Rhyme
Use the sentence structure from a familiar rhyme to create a new rhyme. -
4A.A - Assessing Listening Through the Classics
Listen to a reading of a classic childrens story. -
4B.A - Show and Tell
Speak for 1 2 minutes about a special object, such as a pet or a toy. -
5A.A - I Wonder
Locate, organize and use information from various sources to communicate ideas about a science or social studies activity. -
5B.A - Information Detective
Formulate two questions on a social studies or science topic and use various resources to investigate the answers. -
5C.A - Tell Me More
Explain a visual representation that answers an investigated question and provides two additional facts.
