The assessments are coded according to standard and stage. Example: 1A.I is aligned to standard 1A, stage I (ninth & tenth grades). Sample student work, when available, follows the assessment.
1A.I - Vocabulary Building Cards
Students select vocabulary words from their readings and complete a vocabulary building card for each word.1B.I - SQ3R and Reading Comprehension
Students will use the SQ3R reading strategy to preview a text and make predictions about the reading.1C.I - Our Book Club-Top Books
Students will be asked to review their favorite books to create a list of the best books to recommend to young adults for personal reading.2A.I - Burke's Pentad and Literary Analysis
Students will read a short story and answer questions from Burkes Pentad as preparation for the writing of an evaluation.2B.I - Different People/Different Times
Student will analyze the authors treatment of the topic, paying particular attention to the settings, historical elements, cultural influences, and the authors conclusions.3A.I - Proofreading
Each student will write an expository theme on a topic chosen by the teacher or selected through a class activity such as brainstorming.3B.I - The Argument

Each student will write an informal letter to a friend and one a business letter to complain about a problem encountered.4A.I - How Do I Get There From Here?
Students will listen to a set of directions read by the teacher and will draw a map which illustrates those directions.4B.I - Talk To Me About It
Students will be divided into small groups and will prepare and present orally an analysis of a short story with sufficient detail.5A.I - The Research Report (1)
The student will survey a subject, select a topic, narrow the focus to a specific set of questions to answer, and conduct research to find the information needed.5B.I - The Research Report (2)
Each student will analyze the information gathered for the research report from 5A - Stage I and will select the information to include in the report.5C.I - Teaching a Short Story
Students will prepare an analysis of a short story to be presented to their peers and assign individual tasks and develop an outline of the presentation, research the story, and present the results of their work.
