Springfield
– The Illinois State Board of Education will honor 11 alternative
education students who have shown outstanding achievement and perseverance to
achieve educational success as part of the 2000 Alternative Learning
Partnerships Conference on November 1 and 2. (The winners’ names and schools
are attached.)
The
theme of this year’s conference, being held at the Holiday Inn and Convention
Center, Urbana, is “Endless
Possibilities: Education and the Global Economy.”
More
than 20 sessions are scheduled covering various aspects of innovative and
alternative education pathways to help students succeed in a standards-based
education system.
Sessions
will focus on the needs of students for whom the traditional classroom is
inappropriate. They will also address characteristics of programs and
partnerships that succeed in meeting the needs of these students.

At-Risk Youth; the Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association; the Illinois
Association for the Advancement of Black Americans in Vocational Education;

Illinois School Counselors Association; and the University of Illinois at
