State Board Makes Appointments to Teacher Certification Board
Springfield – The State Board of Education on Thursday appointed four new educators and reappointed three members to the State Teacher Certification Board (STCB) at the State Board’s monthly meeting.
The STCB assists the State Board and State Superintendent of Education to oversee and administer certification of all educational personnel.
State law requires that the State Board appoint STCB members from specific categories of educators, including five administrators or faculty members of public or private colleges and universities; three public school administrators; 10 public school classroom teachers; and one regional superintendent of schools.
The State Board appointed Brenda Humphrey, a Chicago teacher; Connee Fitch-Blanks, a Chicago teacher; and Deidre Dare, a Belleville teacher, all representing the Illinois Federation of Teachers; Denise Williams, a Centralia teacher; and Kay Acklin, a Hinsdale High School librarian, both representing the Illinois Education Association;
Dr. Elizabeth Hitch, dean of Eastern Illinois University’s College of Education; and Bruce Dennison, regional superintendent for Bureau, Henry and Stark counties.
Humphrey, Williams and Dennison are all current STCB members. All of the appointees will serve three-year terms expiring on June 30, 2004.
Leaving the STCB after serving two terms each are Dr. Genevieve Lopardo of Chicago State University, John Baird, Quincy Public School District 172, Richard Perrotte, Chicago Public Schools and Kathy Wessel Wheaton Public School District 200.
