Fairgoers to see if they measure
up to “Sue” Foot of Tyrannosaurus rex at Tech Town
Visitors
to this year’s Illinois State Fair will have the chance
to measure the size of their foot to that of Sue, the world’s
largest, most complete, best preserved, and most famous Tyrannosaurus
rex.
Thanks
to the generosity of the Field Museum, a plaster cast of Sue’s
right foot will be available for viewing daily at the Illinois
State Board of Education’s exhibit in Tech Town. This
model is identical to Sue’s actual foot and is used
for educational and research purposes.
The
Illinois State Museum is providing other skeletal feet to
compare to Sue’s foot. After viewing the exhibit, children
may visit the Museum in the Classroom website to link-up with
the Field Museum and learn the complete history of Sue.
The
cast is about 4’ x 6’ and about 3’ high!!!
And we thought the size of Shaquille O’Neal’s
size-22 shoe was impressive!
Tech
Town is open each day of the fair from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00
p.m. The Illinois State Fair starts today and runs through
August 18 in Springfield.
