Holds Network Meeting Series
Springfield
– The State Board of Education has launched a series
of Network Meetings to broaden its partnerships beyond
the education community. State Superintendent Robert E.
Schiller and Chairman Ronald Gidwitz are reaching out
to the business, law enforcement and education community
to discuss ways to work together to solve the fiscal crisis
facing Illinois schools.
The
first meeting took place last Friday in Chicago, with
about 50 persons engaging in dialog with Chairman Gidwitz
about ways to work together to improve the resources available
to public education. Yesterday, Superintendent Schiller
met with about 40 individuals in Peoria for a similar
discussion.
“The
entire community has a large stake in the quality of our
schools,” Schiller said. “Through these meetings,
we want to make sure that citizens throughout the state
are aware of issues that are important to schools, and
we also want to hear their concerns and suggestions for
what the state can do to support schools.”
