Academic Early Warning
and
Academic Watch Lists Amended
2 schools removed; 5 added to Academic Warning,
now eligible for System of Support
2 schools removed from Academic Watch List
The State Board of Education has amended the 2002 Academic
Early Warning List to remove four schools and add five
others that were miscoded when the list was released in
December. The final total for the 2002 AEWL is now 664
schools from 124 districts. The 2002 Academic Watch List
now totals 50 schools in five districts after being amended
to remove two schools.
Schools Removed from the Academic Early Warning List
Lincoln Jr. High School in LaSalle Elementary District
122 asked that the writing assessments of 70 students
be rescored, which adjusted their final results enough
to remove the school from the list. Schools have 45 days
after results are reported to contest the results and
pay for rescoring the tests. Final results show that the
school had 197 scores that meet or exceed state standards
of the 395 scores in the school, raising the school's
composite ISAT performance to 49.87%.
Schools are placed on the AEWL because of two years with
less than 50% of scores meeting ISAT standards and composite
scores of 49.5 and above are rounded to the 50% threshhold.
A.J. Katzenmaier Middle School in North Chicago School
District 187 is being removed from the AEWL because
the configuration of the school has changed from grades
6 thru 8 to grades K - 5.
Schools Added to the 2002 Academic Early Warning List
Five schools that are eligible for the AEWL were not
identified when the original 2002 AEWL was compiled, due
to technical coding errors. NCS Pearson, the contractor
for providing assessment data, had used incorrect data
codes. Consequently, ISBE was unable to match 2002 performance
data to 2001 performance data. Thus, these schools went
undetected. Now that the coding errors have been corrected,
staff recommends that the following five schools be added
to the 2002 AEWL based on the 2001 and 2002 scores shown
below:
