State Board of Education and AFSCME Local #2811
announce tentative contract agreement
State Board and union negotiators agree to four-year
contract
Springfield, Ill. Just two and half months after being
appointed, the new Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
and State Schools Superintendent have reached a tentative
agreement on a four-year contract with the American Federation
of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 31
Local #2811. The members of AFSCME Council 31 Local #2811,
who had been working without a contract since July 1, 2004,
will vote on the contract in the next few weeks.
Were pleased that we quickly reached a contract
agreement that is both fair to State Board of Education workers
and responsible, given the states financial difficulties,
said Interim State Superintendent Randy Dunn. We believe
the agreement is a good foundation for a strong partnership
between the new State Board and our employees and I would
like to thank the men and women involved in the negotiations
for their hard work. We look forward to the contracts
ratification.
The new administration at ISBE came in with a goal
to quickly reach an agreement that provides a fair and equitable
contract for both parties, said AFSCME Council 31 Local
#2811 President Sharon Hopson.
Details of the tentative agreement will not be available
until it is ratified by members of AFSCME Council 31 Local
#2811. After the Local #2811 has ratified the contract, the
State Board of Education will formally approve the agreement.
