ISBE to offer technical assistance opportunities to
schools
Three workshops set around state in
December
Springfield, Ill. –The Illinois State Board of
Education will offer technical assistance meetings on
school restructuring issues for those schools that did
not make sufficient or adequate yearly progress over several
years. Those schools that did not make sufficient or adequate
yearly progress are required to write a “restructuring
plan” in early 2006.
Illinois is moving ahead with an Illinois e-Plan
which will simplify the process of submitting required
plans to local boards of education and ISBE. This toolkit
is now available through the Interactive Illinois Report
Card (IIRC) website for schools and districts. The toolkit
includes a School Improvement Plan Template
and an accompanying Guide and Peer Review Tool
to assist districts and schools in revising and submitting
school improvement and restructuring plans. A District
Improvement Plan Template and an accompanying
Guide will follow in the next few weeks.
Schools that have not made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
for five consecutive school years must submit a plan for
restructuring the school, with the plan to be implemented
if the school does not make AYP next spring. District
and school planners should consider what has occurred
in a school that has brought it to the point of restructuring
planning. The restructuring plan should take into account
the school improvement and corrective actions initiated
in prior years. The actions required under the restructuring
plan may be seen as deeper, broader, or more targeted
to meet identified needs. Each restructuring plan must
be submitted to ISBE with the approval of the local board
no later than six months after the district’s receipt
this summer of formal notification regarding the school’s
AYP status.
