Statement from Jesse H. Ruiz
I speak for all the members of the Illinois State Board of Education and agency staff as I extend my deepest sympathy to Michael Scott’s family, friends and the entire Chicago Public Schools community. I was fortunate enough to travel with Michael and his wife, Diana, several years ago. Like many, I came to hold Michael in highest regard and I had looked forward to continued work between the state and Chicago schools under Michael’s leadership.
Michael’s commitment to education, his passion, and communication skills helped make a large urban district feel just a bit smaller. His dedication and skills improved the educational experience for children across Chicago. It is with the saddest of hearts that I say he will be sorely missed but I believe the legacy of his good work will live on.
