Information on teacher shortage scholarships and applications is available from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) at 1-800-899-4722. Paul Douglas Scholars and individuals who have been receiving a teacher shortage scholarship in other areas should contact ISAC.
The above identified shortage areas are also eligible for payment deferral provisions of the Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFEL), Federal Supplemental Loan for Students (SLS), and the reduction of teaching obligation under the Paul Douglas Teacher Scholarship Program. Federal Stafford and SLS borrowers who have questions concerning their loans, including the teacher shortage area deferment, should call the Federal Student Aid Hotline at 1-800-4FEDAID (1-800-433-3243).
